    Ten New Favorites!

Niko Draws a Feeling Niko Draws a Feeling Written by Bob Raczka, illustrated by Simone Shin This story is an example of how amazingly different some people feel, and see, and hear, our world. Some are even lucky enough to be able to express these experiences visually. Niko is one. I relate to Niko SO much. My experiences are very abstract, but SO strong. The pieces Niko makes are true to him. Immovable. The hard work of a robin’s nest, a ring-a-ling of an ice cream truck. They are what they are and he shares that. Not many others understand, but finally Niko finds someone who does. And that is…

    Hilarious,  Silly Fun

Written by Aaron Reynolds, illustrated by Dan Santat Hilarious! A group of carnivorous animals are getting all worked up and emotional because everyone thinks they are terrible. They have not been portrayed fairly. They are very misunderstood. So, they try to better their image by going vegetarian! Bahahaha! They also try other avenues to make a better impression. Things of course do not go according to plan. So, the wise old owl must swoop in with advice. Being a shark, you kinda have to eat fish, right?

    Lyric McKerrigan Secret Librarian

Written by Jacob Sager Weinstein, illustrated by Vera Brosgol This book has all the intrigue and action of a spy movie! Lyric McKerrigan most definitely saves to world one book at a time. The evil villian Doctor Glockenspiel wants a billion-trillion dollars or else he will unleash his army of giant moths to eat all the books of the world! But does that even put a pause in Lyric McKerrigan’s steps? No way! She uses every trick in the book *wink-wink* to outwit her evil foe! I can’t say enough about the use of color in this book either. Vera Brosgol makes it look so easy! Just so super great.

It’s Not Jack and the Beanstalk

Written by Josh Funk, illustrated by Edwardian Taylor This is not how the story is suppose to go! While the traditional story of Jack and the Beanstalk is being narrated, Jack doesn’t want to follow along at all. Getting distracted by party invitations, insisting on not climbing the beanstalk, and engaging in rhyme critique with a giant are only a few hilarious hiccups in the narrator’s attempt to tell a lovely fairy-tale. This is a great read aloud for a crowd of kids. They will be rolling on the floor laughing. For reading with a kiddo on your lap, there are so many layers in the adorable illustrations. Read the…

    Bear and Chicken

by Jannie Ho Poor Chicken! She is found frozen in the forest, then thawed by a bear with sharp teeth, and soon finds herself very close to being chicken soup! The colorful and playful illustrations are a great contrast to the inevitable doom you feel while seeing things through Chicken’s point of view. But don’t judge Bear too quickly, he was only trying to help. Right? Well, he sure does make a tasty soup! As you watch Chicken become more and more wide-eyed and freaked out, it just gets more and more hilarious. A perfect pick for anyone who loves a good belly laugh.
