I love that I can see and smell and feel this story. I can feel stones and mud in my hands, and cool water drip on my tongue. I feel the cold and wet, and I feel energized by the weather. The illustrations, oh the illustrations. The bright pop of orange on the youngster’s jacket really helps you see the murkiness of the day, but then the magical happens. Climbing trees, drinking raindrops, and talking to birds, the world becomes less drab. Wonderful transition. This is a beautiful book.
